Can you answer smielyrya’s question about Disabilities?:
I started working in feburary and will not be allowed to go on my works insurance plans untill august (they have a 6 month wait) At that time I will be about 7 months pregnant. Is it possible to join thier Short Term Disability plan then? Or will they not let me, since I am already pregnant? I live in New York.

Disabilities Feedback: They’ll probably accept your premium, but it won’t cover this pregnancy.
Disabilities Feedback: discuss this with your HR rep at your place of business. have your doctor fill out the FMLA paperwork to cover yourself, just in case.
Disabilities Feedback: You can probably join but you won’t be able to use it this time.
Disabilities Feedback: I would contact your human resources/personal department and talk with them, they will most likely have the solid answers you need based on your employer’s requirements and the state laws in your ares.
best of luck to you!
Disabilities Feedback: ask the HR or the plan administrator. Generally, pregnancy is considered pre-existing condition for the shord-term disability purposes.
But check with the plan, maybe you’re in luck.
But keep in mind, the Sh. term disability only pays you while you are out of work taking care of the baby (or before, if you have a high-risk pregnancy and end up bed ridden), and not pays for medical insurance.
Instead you qualify for FMLA. only six weeks (8 wk for c-section) of paid medical after birth since you have not been with the company for more than 1 year. Otherwise, you would have taken an additional 6 weeks unpaid for the care of the baby.
Disabilities Feedback: I know for AFLAC, you have to have had it for 13 months prior to getting pregnant before they will pay any claims.
Disabilities Feedback: You can join the plan, but it wont cover anything having to do with pregnancy because it is considered a pre exisiting condition. If you are on the plan, however, and something else happens to you ( knock on wood) causing you to be out of work then you would be covered while you were out. So, lets just say you needed to go on bed rest due to the pregnancy. Well, you could have your dr say that its because something else totally unrelated and then you would be covered. LOL. Immoral yes. Something thats done in a time of desperate measures yes.\
Good Luck
